Standards Leadership

API & ASTM Petroleum Measurement Standards

For generations, W.L. Walker has supported the petroleum measurement standards work behind accurate tank gauging, temperature determination, density measurement, sampling, centrifuge testing, and custody transfer.

Why It Matters

Measurement You Can Defend

Petroleum measurement is more than taking a reading. It depends on accepted procedures, trained personnel, traceable equipment, and records that can withstand commercial, operational, and regulatory review.

API MPMS

Field Measurement Practice

W.L. Walker equipment is used in the same field environments addressed by API MPMS, including tank gauging, temperature determination, sampling, density measurement, and sediment and water testing.

ASTM

Laboratory & Test Methods

ASTM petroleum standards support many of the test methods and instrument practices used to connect laboratory measurement, field equipment, and custody transfer calculations.

Arthur L. Walker

Early Standards Involvement

Arthur L. Walker helped establish the Walker family’s long-running involvement in petroleum measurement standards and practical field equipment for the oil and gas industry.

Anne Walker Brackett

Decades of Committee Service

  • 40+ years of standards involvement
  • Former Chair, API MPMS Chapter 7
  • Contributor across API COMQ and COLM
  • Participant in ASTM petroleum measurement work
John Brackett

Continuing the Work

  • Active in API COLM and COMQ
  • Chair, API MPMS Chapter 7.1
  • Vice Chair, API MPMS Chapter 10
  • Contributor to temperature, density, and field measurement work
Standards We Work With Most: API MPMS Chapter 7 for temperature determination, Chapter 3 for tank gauging, Chapter 8 for sampling, Chapters 9 and 10 for density and hydrometer-related measurement, and Chapter 10 methods related to sediment and water by centrifuge. These standards help connect field practice, laboratory testing, and commercial custody transfer.
Our Ongoing Commitment: Standards continue to evolve as instruments, software, sampling practices, and custody transfer expectations change. W.L. Walker remains engaged so our equipment, service, and technical support stay connected to the measurement practices used by the petroleum industry.
